Overcrowding and the crisis of the prison system Brazilian

This article aims to present the situation of nonapplication of existing provisions in the Federal Constitution and the Penal Execution Law in prisons in Brazil, especially the fact that overcrowding of units. The data collected from the last National Penitentiary Survey showed that the framework in which the prison system of the country meets is a profound structural crisis. It remained evident, in addition to the chaos in the system, that for the change of the current prison situation it takes political will and society's interest in solving the problem. Without this, the objectives of the penalty will continue to be utopian and the rights of the prison population violated.
