Abstract

This study analyzed the trends, challenges, and outcomes related to sustainable practices in the Brazilian footwear industry during the post-pandemic period (2022–2023). The objective was to identify initiatives and advancements that integrate sustainability into the sector's production processes. The research employed thematic-categorical content analysis based on 21 reports from Abicalçados, organizing information into three main axes: trends, results, and challenges. The findings revealed an increased use of eco-efficient materials, greater achievement of certifications, such as the Sustainable Origin seal, and recognition in national and international events. Social responsibility initiatives, including donations and collaborative campaigns, were also highlighted. However, significant barriers were identified, such as high implementation costs, a lack of skilled labor, and legislative complexity. The study concludes that sustainability has become an essential strategy for the sector's competitiveness, although challenges persist. Practical implications include the need for enhanced training and encouragement of partnerships.
