Black feminism, gender identity and silences: a critical review from the perspective of Audre Lorde

Abstract

This critical review analyses the historical marginalization of certain bodies in society. A reflection by Audre Lorde, as an exponent of black feminism, reveals itself not only as a source of the author´s personal way of get off her chest about the challenges faced during the treatment of breast cancer, but also reiterates the strength of the union of different voices, in search of a structural change, so that there is an overcoming of the so-called white supremacy, heteronormative and exclusionary. “The Cancer Journals” is a work whose repercussion goes beyond the context of the United States in the 20th century, as it demonstrates the strength of the struggle and resistance of different people who have been made invisible throughout history.
