Abstract

The article presents a profile of the Brazilian intellectual, demonstrating the intimacy of this theme with the legal universe. Based primarily on Caio Prado Junior and Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and their studies on our elites and our intellectuals. The article is structured on the following way:: we analyze the formation of Brazil as a colony of exploitation and the individuals who did (not) work, the formation of our urban bourgeoisie; a profile of the Brazilian intellectual in the nineteenth century - with particular reference to positivist and Freemasonry - and finally, we will study the education of jurists in the nineteenth century - having as protagonist of this process the Academia de São Paulo.
