This text is a bibliographic review of the concepts, definitions and performance of green roofs, which are presented with the aim of promoting economic and socio-environmental benefits in the urban environment. This type of coverage allows a better use of space, allowing greater environmental comfort and energy efficiency, which consequently generates an improvement in the quality of life of society. Together, this bibliographic review presents an analysis of the origin and evolution of green roofs, the types of vegetation suitable for their constitution, their application, comparative performances in different climates, in addition to the difficulties and barriers that are encountered in their construction. It is then verified that green roofs are functional solutions to make the urban environment a more attractive, profitable and beneficial environment for its citizens.
