Abstract

The construction sector has become one of the major reasons for environmental concern, especially when it comes to the emission of carbon dioxide and waste generation. One way to mitigate such impacts is to replace a linear system for a Circular Economy (CE) model. In this model, the recycling of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) is a practice that has been extensively studied for over 20 years, while research on the reuse of constructive elements from the Design for Deconstruction/Disassembly (DfD) perspective has gained prominence only in the last five years. Among such researches, the assessment of sustainability through environmental indicators is even more scarce. In this way, this article makes a systematic review of the literature, bringing together works that point out the main advances in DfD practice, focusing on concrete structures from the perspective of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Based on the articles analyzed, it was observed that, despite the absence of a unified method to quantify its benefits, the practice of DfD proved to be advantageous to mitigate the environmental impacts of the construction sector.
