About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Mix Sustentável journal presents as its proposal the publication of results of research and projects, in virtual and printed form, focusing on the theme sustainability. Seeking the exchange of information among researchers in the area, linked to graduate programs, it will also open space for the disclosure of professionals in the labor market, as well as interviews with national and foreign researchers in the sustainability theme. It will also publish abstracts of theses, dissertations, and final papers from Civil Engineering, Design, and Architecture and Urbanism courses that have been defended, bearing in mind the importance of project production and not only textual production in this area.

The project encompassing the precepts of sustainability is the only possible solution for the union between the philosophy of continuous improvement and the increasing need for the preservation of natural resources and an increase in the quality of life. Sustainability needs a deep discussion to spread research and actions of the academic community, which has created less degrading technologies in the environmental dimension; more economical and that help to demolish long-established social injustices.

According to CAPES (2013), the Interdisciplinary area in the post-graduation context, arose from the need to solve new problems that emerge in the contemporary world, of different natures and with varying levels of complexity, often arising from the very advancement of scientific and technological knowledge. The complex nature of such problems requires dialogues not only between neighboring disciplines, within the same area of knowledge, but also between disciplines from different areas, as well as between disciplinary and non-disciplinary knowledge. Hence, the relevance of new forms of knowledge production and human resources training that take on as an object of investigation phenomena that are placed between disciplinary boundaries.

Theoretical and methodological challenges are presented to different fields of knowledge. New forms of knowledge production enrich and expand the field of sciences by demanding the incorporation of a broader rationality, which goes beyond the strictly disciplinary thinking and its methodology of compartmentalization and reduction of objects. If disciplinary thinking, on the one hand, confers advances to science and technology, on the other, the unfoldings originating from the various fields of knowledge generate different levels of complexity and require broader dialogues, between and beyond disciplines.

Therefore, Mix Sustentável is inserted in the Interdisciplinary Area (area 45), in Architecture, Urbanism and Design (area 29), in Civil Engineering (area 10), and also in engineering in general.

MIssion

To publish results of research and projects, both virtual and printed, focusing on sustainability. To seek the exchange of information among academics, professionals and researchers in the area linked to graduate programs.

Objectives

To disseminate knowledge about sustainability applied to engineering, architecture and design projects.

Target audience

Researchers and professionals in architecture and urbanism, design and engineering.

Session and submission policies

The Sustainable Mix became, as of 2018, a four-monthly publication. The journal is divided into sections, which are:]

(a) Scientific section - containing unpublished scientific articles to socialize the academic production, seeking the valorization of research, teaching and extension. It gathers at least 12 scientific articles that present the interrelationship of the sustainability theme in projects, in the areas of design, engineering, and architecture.

In the regular editions, original and unpublished content will be required for publication acceptance. Special issues, which will not be subject to the journal's qualifications, will publish extended contents, resulting from the best evaluations of publications submitted to scientific events within the journal's scope.

b) Undergraduate, scientific initiation and postgraduate section: dissemination of Theses, Dissertations and Course Completion Papers in the form of expanded abstracts and as a way of stimulating the dissemination of academic-scientific works focused on the project for sustainability.

c) Market section: space for Reviews and Interviews (Dialogue Spaces). It will feature two interviews with professionals working in the market, showing practical projects that have applications in the sphere of sustainability. It should also make available conversations with experts in sustainability and/or other fields of knowledge.

Periodicity Mix online as of 2018 - quarterly

Peer Review Process

The journal counts on a group of reviewers who are experts in the sustainability theme, PhDs in their areas of activity.

Original contributions are accepted, national and international, written in Portuguese, English or Spanish, from educational or research institutions and professionals working in technological development.

The originals will be submitted to the approval of the evaluators (double and blind) with notorious recognition in the themes approached by the articles submitted to the Mix Sustentável Journal.

The works will be sent for evaluation without identification of authorship. The evaluation consists of the emission of opinions by at least two evaluators and two members of the editorial board of the magazine.

Publication Frequency

Four-monthly publication after 2018.

Open Access Policy

This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater worldwide democratization of knowledge. This allows immediate free access to the work and enables any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software or use them for any other lawful purpose.

Journal History

The Mix Journal was born following the re-edition of the ENSUS - Meeting of Sustainability in Design .

ENSUS took place in 2007, 2008 and 2009 at UNIVALI - Universidade do Vale do Itajaí and the best papers of the event were published in MIG Magazine.

As ENSUS 2016 was held via the Federal University of Santa Catarina, the Journal MIX Sustentável appeared, to complete the set of actions for dissemination of the project culture for sustainability.

ENSUS 2017 took place from May 3 to 5, at UFSC.

The first edition of the journal Mix Sustentável was launched in 2015. It acquired QUALIS CAPES in seven areas of knowledge and seeks constant improvement of its quality.

From 2015 to 2018 it had two regular issues and two special issues per year, with biannual periodicity. From October 2018, it began to publish three regular issues per year and at least one special issue, changing its periodicity to four-monthly.
