Abstract

Using oral reports collected in Florianopolis along with researches tied to the Japanese immigration and eating, this article seeks to present the relationship between eating and preparing typical Japanese dishes with memory, belonging and culture in Japanese families living outside a Japanese community, such as on the island of Santa Catarina. For this, it is necessary to understand a little more about the context that Japan was going through at the beginning of the Meiji Era and the background of immigration to Brazil.
