Abstract

Franklin Cascaes’ opus is usually associated to the fantastic universe in the mentality of the fishing communities of the Island of Santa Catarina. However, there’s an implicit critique, in his drawings and sculptures, to the progress brought by governors in the sixties and seventies. This article seeks to analyze and discuss this aspect in the artist’s opus, a cult to the tradition that was being lost in detriment of the modernization.
