Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the perspectives of Kant and Habermas on the notions of moral progress and hope. It seeks to understand how both authors deal with the problem of human hope in the search for the realization of moral ideals in the world, highlighting the differences between the two approaches. The aim is to argue that, while Kant resorts to religion and the notion of ‘rational belief’ to answer the question of hope, Habermas seeks to deal with the problem of hope and encouragement for the realization of moral ideals in the world from within human history, by identifying “traces” of moral learning processes present in history.
