Qualitative assessment of the use of lean manufacturing practices: a case study in an aluminum and cast-iron household appliance industry that does not have a structured lean system

Abstract


This work presents a qualitative assessment of the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques in a housewares industry, aluminium and cast iron that does not have a Lean system implemented in Southwest of Paraná. The evaluation was conducted in two production lines of household items, using four sources of evidence: direct observation; interview with Director, Manager and supervisors; analysis of documents; interview with 06 production operators. Through such evidence was possible filling out a checklist with 82 items that aimed to evaluate Lean practices that the company uses. Was possible through this case study to identify strengths and weaknesses of the system used by the company, allowing suggestions for improvements in the implementation of Lean practices.
