Abstract

The article analyzes the formation of Santa Catarina's identity from the process of
European immigration, especially with the intersection of northeastern migration, work and
politics, focusing on the rise of the far-right and the uses of the past in xenophobic discourses
against this population. The rise of the far-right, combined with the migration of
Northeasterners in search of work, has put all these concepts in intersection, which has
opened a front of studies for a new History of Santa Catarina in the present time.
