CPT and MST: formation and occupation in west of Santa Catarina

Abstract

This article examines aspects of the beginning of the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) in the state of Santa Catarina: the formation of the peasants by the Land Pastoral Commission (CPT), the foundation of the MST, and the preparation of the bases, from January to May 1985, for the occupations held on May 25th, 1985. The article highlights the organization held for the occupation of the farms Papuan I and Sandra, both in Abelardo Luz. The methodology consists of a literature review and oral history, aiming to discuss the experience and memory of the peasants in the occupation processes.
