Japanese immigrants in the speech of Santa Catarina newspapers - Modernization, evolution

Abstract

This article analyzes the representations of the Japanese immigrants in the newspapers of the Santa Catarina state at the time, more precisely between 1964 and 1979, and especially in the newspaper O'Estado. This article intends to discuss the changes in the journalistic speech on the Nikkei, as well as their permanence, analyzing the expectations and the epic way of presenting the Nikkei as savior of the agrarian sector of Santa Catarina, and how newspapers used this speech to praise politicians from Santa Catarina.
