Indigenous in the province of Santa Catarina: a police case

Abstract

The discussion on indigenous question are in focus in recent years, and in this scenario, different discourses on the Indian's role in society, representations of what we mean by Indian in Brazil, are observed, and these representations have in its construction disputes and interests that change as the issues of each historical moment. This article aims to discuss the representation which was built during the Indian monarchical Brazil, from confrontations related to the land, to understand the changes and continuities in indigenous politics and current representations employed in the province of Santa Catarina, by analyzing crafts delegates from police.
