The formation of nationality in Santa Catarina during Question Christie (1863)

This article discusses how the Province of Santa Catarina reacted to the "Questão Christie," a diplomatic impasse between Brazil and England in the nineteenth century (1862-1864), which had its climax at the year 1863 and led the two nations to the brink of war. The central focus is directed toward the study of how the population of Santa Catarina was mobilized for the defense of national and regional levels in the face of a British invasion, how were the conditions of using the fortresses of the province in order to resist to an invasion, and questions about minority groups in this context as blacks, indigenous and Teuto-Brazilian.Downloads
