Mother, wife, adulteress, prostitute
the presence of bourgeois femininity models in Desterro feuilleton novels in the 19th century (1871-1890)
Abstract
This article seeks to investigate the model(s) of femininity of the bourgeois elite that formed itself in Desterro in the second half of the 19th century and whose codes of distinction and identification, the record of an ideal woman one of them, were present in novel-feuilletons of the time, a source that, although privileged with regard to the study of society, remains little explored. The novels used are: Lastênia (1871), Ibrantina (1879), A Mendiga (1884), A Leprosa (1889) and A Paixão do Jeremias (1890), all by men, the last two written by Horácio Nunes Pires, which I analyze more closely.
