From Miramar to the monument: the reconstruction of the “old pier”

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the building process of the former bar and the pier Miramar, which can be considered one of the major symbols of ancient Florianópolis, since the city hall’s initial suggestion of rebuilding it in 1988 until the conclusion of the work on the Memorial ao Miramar, in 2001. In order to this, articles from the newspaper O Estado will be analyzed, and Jacques Le Goff will be used as the theoretical background.
