Pre-colonial populations of Santa Catarina Island

Abstract

This work aims to present some information on the pre-colonial population that inhabited the current territory of Santa Catarina, specially the Island of Santa Catarina. The intention is to understand the relation of the populations that had inhabited here with the environment, how they had intervened with the landscape, theirs cults, and how they were organized socially and culturally. Moreover, our objective is change the conceptions of most of the writings produced about Santa Catarina that concentrate the studies of native people on the last two centuries forget the origins of precolonial populations.
