HIV/SIDA: A media phenomenon

Abstract

This article seeks to problematize the process of emergence of AIDS as a pandemic in Santa Catarina and their historical repercussions throughout the 1980s and 1990s through the dizzying growth rates of contamination and victims of the disease in the state, mainly related to social issues involving the disease. We also intend to point out the wide social ignorance on this subject in the period depicted, along with the unique role of the media in the process of education and awareness about the syndrome. Were used as main sources to compose this article some stories and articles published in journals. Keywords: HIV/SIDA; Media and communication; Information.
