The emergence of the Yoga tradition in Florianopolis in the 1970’s

Abstract

This article aims to bring questions and encourage debate around the yoga while a social practice. Yoga is an ancient practice that has emerged with the Vedic civilization of Indus-Saraswati region in India around 4500 BC and had its millenarian teachings transmitted through oral tradition. By the late 1960s the yoga was appropriated by Western counterculture movements, leading to a series of adjustment and readjustment to the reality that western ways. This article aims to give rise to the historicity of this practice in Brazil since the 1960s consolidating itself, and specifically in the city of Florianópolis, in 1970.
