The floods of 1983 in Santa Catarina: the affected, but forgotten cities

Abstract

The floods are part of life for residents of the state of Santa Catarina since the time of colonization, although this period were less noticeable due to the low population density. The year 1983 was marked in people's memories by flooding that hit and destroyed Blumenau, because of this, the first Oktoberfest was held in order to raise money for the rebuilding of the city. This article aims to show that while the flood of 1983 is almost exclusively associated with Blumenau always, there were as affected as other cities.
