Abstract

The development of logging industries in the catarinense middle-west has its beginning with a subsidiary company of Teresa Cristina railway named “Lumber and Colonization Company”, that deforested the region to build the road and taked advantage of the huge timber potential of the Araucaria forests and became the leadership in the wood production and exploration. In the late of the 20th other business groups arose, also interested on the logging, among them features the “Grupo Vinícola Rio Grandense” and “Celulose Irani S.A”, which had associated together to found the “Madeireira Rio Irani” and the “Vila de Campina Redonda”. After a period of prosperity they had succumbed to IBAMA’s restrictions and to economic interests and had disappeared in the middle of a pinus reforestation garden.
