Abstract

The law of free birth, that declare free status of the children born of the slave woman, led the brazilian government to interfere directly, for the first time in the master-slave relationship, extolling the tempers of liberals and conservatives in the face of imminent disintegration of slavery in Brazil. In this article we discuss about the repercussions of this law in the Province of Santa Catarina, through periodic reviews of the time in order to contribute for a more marked understanding about this event and its consequences in this province.
