The diversity of the colonization of the Itajai Valley: 1835 – 1867

Abstract

This paper consists in a first atempt to approuch the "colonization in Santa Catarina" more especifficaly in the Itajai Valley region between the years 1835 and 1867. The Province President’s Reports are the base of the reflections. The paper focuses in the way the colonization process happened in its political and administrative contexts bringing forward the multiplicity of forms of colonies in this region. Has with argument that the colonization was more complex than the european territorial occupation model with purpose of agricultural production.
