Abstract

Racial segregation is often subject to a stereotype that associates the issue exclusively with foreign contexts, as if this reality had not reached Brazil after the abolition of slavery. However, despite not being institutionally established, Brazilian society exhibited various segregationist practices. This article aims to analyze racial segregation in the municipality of Itajaí during the twentieth century, focusing on the Guarani Societies and the Sebastião Lucas Cultural and Beneficent Society.
