Abstract

This article analyzes the role of women during the military dictatorship in the state of Santa Catarina (Brasil), both on the left and on the right. CAMDE (Women’s Campaign for Democracy) supported the 1964 military coup, with figures such as Edith Gama Ramos, first lady of the state, leading actions such as the Marcha da Família com Deus pela Liberdade. The press reinforced the role of women as "guardians of the Revolution" and christian values. In the resistance, women played a central role in the student movement, such as Novembrada in Florianópolis, in addition to being part of feminist movements and working in the search for missing family members
