Chamada de Artigos: Dossiê Filosofia da Violência

2025-05-21

The PERI Journal (Qualis A4), linked to the Graduate Program in Philosophy at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, is holding an open call for the Special Issue: Philosophy of Violence, which is scheduled for publication in April 2026. Thus, it is with pleasure that the PERI Editorial Team, together with guest editor Alexandre Meyer Luz (UFSC), invite researchers to submit articles until October 5, 2025.

"Violence" is a term we apply to a myriad of events, regarding relationships between humans, between humans and the environment, between non-human beings, and others. We say that an environment is violent, that social entities are violent, that certain people or groups are violent. We interchange terms such as "violent" with others like "ferocious," "hostile", "aggressive," "harmful," etc. We denounce violent practices, but we also boast about some of them. Our legal apparatus, therapeutic tools in Psychology, anthropological and sociological investigations use the concept to designate events that are, in many respects, very different from each other. In self-defense scenarios, we often consider violence acceptable or even desirable.

The Philosophy of Violence consists of the systematic investigation into the nature of violence, the public attributions of violence (and their different social receptions), and the relationships between the concept of violence and other related concepts. Much discussion surrounding this theme appears distributed throughout the philosophical tradition, but it seems appropriate to say that violence does not constitute a theme that gathers organized discussions in an organic manner. This dossier intends, in this sense, to contribute to a systematization of the discussion. In this sense, submissions are open for essays that, in some way, address issues related to violence or any other term or phenomenon related to it, from any theoretical model and from historiographical or problem-centered perspectives.

We welcome submissions of essays that engage with issues related to violence or associated terms and phenomena, from any theoretical model, whether historiographical or problem-centered perspectives.
