Application of lean office concepts for information flow improvement in a veterinary industry

Abstract


The national veterinary industry has experienced a representative growth and a large maturation, leading to continuous improvement and expansion of its competitiveness, seeking the improvement of the management processes. This work results from the use of Lean Thinking concepts (DMAIC) in a veterinary pharmaceutical industry, aiming to eliminate waste in the records of technical information of the Quality Control. It was carried out the daily routine of the analysts measuring time spent and mistakes made during the completion of records. It was noticed that the application of Lean brought significant improvements for the optimization of time and reduction of errors in the process of records, besides a change in the culture of employees, who have shown themselves motivated and committed to the Lean culture. The concepts of the Lean system, normally used in manufacturing activities, are highly effective when applied to laboratory information flows.
