The Beira-Rio Avenue as a product of urban expansion in Blumenau between 1951 and 1969: an analysis through newspapers

Abstract

The Beira-Rio Avenue had its construction designed in a very busy time in Blumenau (decades 1940-1970). The industry expanded, the city was more urban and the population grew faster than its infrastructure. It was the result of a popular demand and a policy action to urban control, being built to solve many problems of the city with a great work. We intended to include the construction of its first stretch (1951-1969) in the context of urban and industrial expansion of the city, analyzing three newspaper articles of the period, understanding how the newspaper Lume and the Cidade de Blumenau announced the necessity of this avenue.
