The escapes of slaves on the island of Santa Catarina announced in the newspaper O Argos (Desterro - 1856-1860)

Abstract

This article seeks to expose the social relations of the slaves on the island of Santa Catarina between the years 1856 and 1860. Used as sources the ads of the escapes published in The Journal Argos during this period. The fear that these men and women had in running away exposing themselves to various hazards, escape routes, punishment and the vigilance from society, though not explicit in advertisements, are factors of great importance about the slave quotidian.
