“Platão contra Homero”?

Motivado por uma frase de Nietzsche em Genealogia da Moral, segundo a qual o verdadeiro e inteiro antagonismo seria o de Platão contra Homero, exponho alguns importantes pontos de aproximação entre os Diálogos e os dois grandes poemas homéricos: a importância da experiência da admiração (thaumázein), a busca pelas causas, a postulação de entidades de especial estatuto ontológico como princípio, o papel da idealidade e dos paradigmas, a inspiração divina como forma de obtenção do conhecimento dessa idealidade, o apreço pela harmonia e a concepção teleológica e teodiceica da organização do mundo. Ao final, sugiro, ainda que com ressalvas, que a conclusão que deveríamos tirar desse paralelo é que, ao contrário do que pretendia Nietzsche, a filosofia platônica não seria a decadência do espírito grego, mas sim seu apogeu.

Abstract

Motivated by a sentence written in Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Moral, according to which the entire and true antagonism would be that of Plato against Homer, I display important points of convergence between the Dialogues and the two long Homeric poems: the importance of the experience of wonder, the search for causes, the postulation of entities of special ontological status as principle, the role of ideals and paradigms, divine inspiration as the way by which this knowledge of the ideals is attained, the high estimation of harmony and, finally, the theodicy and the teleological conception of the world. In the end, I suggest that the conclusion that should be taken from this parallel is that platonic philosophy, in contrast to Nietzsche`s claim, would not be the decay of Greek spirit, but its zenith.
