Abstract

The incorporation of new technologies on manufacturing was called Industry 4.0. These technologies direct the industry to a new production paradigm where there are fewer human interferences and the system is intelligent and interconnected. This connection between the system components generates the interaction of technologies with various areas of knowledge, such as digital and physical. Industry 4.0 focuses on: the intelligent production of products, methods and processes. Technologies such as RFID, sensors, processing in the cloud, are part of the many components that can be found in a system oriented by Industry 4.0. The application of these technologies has the opportunity to transform how the Operations Management is carried out in companies. This article aims to verify the contribution of the application cases of Industry 4.0 in Operations Management. From a survey of 38 success cases resulting from technological implementations related to manufacturing 4.0, it will be identified the benefits of these applications for Operations Management. The results indicate that Industry 4.0's contributions are more concentrated in the areas like Technology Management and Justin-Time Manufacturing. In addition, the maturity level of the analyzed cases is still incipient indicating a potential of increased productivity after the application of these technologies in the productive sector.
