Abstract

The Slum as a form of housing has been an object of long-standing research and debate, with different understandings of the social and spatial phenomenon. The article reviews the concept of slum and seeks to understand housing in the context of the production of the capitalist city. The analyses allow us to conclude that the slum is a product of the valorization of urban land, of the commodity character that land acquires in society, of the dispossession of the worker and reflects the struggle for the survival of the working class.
