Marxism and the pre-Columbian civilizations

Abstract

This article presents contributions by Marx and Engels to the study of pre-Columbian civilizations, notably the Inca and the Aztec, taking as a subsidy the notes, writings and excerpts of works by the reference authors. As a result, the category of communal possession is introduced as a theoretical foundation for investigating other determinants of these societies, such as kinship systems, money, and simple exchange.
