However, this type of knowledge is not formulated through a textual and compartmentalized memory, but through polymathy and the “art of memory”, that is, encompassing different fields of knowledge simultaneously and through a personalized narrative coherence. Aurinda do Prato, Master of Samba de Roda and Yalorixá of Candomblé Ketu/Angola on the Itaparica Island, Bahia, articulates different types of knowledge and forms of socialization in a simultaneous and heterogeneous way. When observing her contributions, we note that the complex insertion of holders of traditional knowledge in knowledge spaces can provide not only the realization of full democracy, truly based on respect and dialogue, but also the construction of more organic, sensitive and reciprocal relationships, characteristics that are so necessary in the times we live in.
Augusto Da Costa Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7944 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 The place of african matrix religions https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7999
The present article has as its central theme the study of the architectures of places where Afro-Brazilian faith is manifested, whether in natural or human-created environments, through the prism of architecture and urbanism. Analyzing the relationship between these religions and architecture and urbanism is crucial for understanding the locations where communities of the terreiro are present in the city and how architecture influences on the appropriation of these spaces. The significance of this analysis is reinforced by the limited number of studies addressing this theme within this field of knowledge. To provide a better understanding of the central topic of this work, some insights from key authors on the African originated religions and its territories will be presented. Thus, the main objective of this article is to conduct a systematic literature review of 12 scientific articles found in two indexed databases that explore the relationship between African originated religions and its places of faith manifestation.
Bruno Fernandes Schwinn, Ricardo Wiese Socas, Jonathan Frare Giorgi Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7999 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Construtores da modernidade. However, the historiography of Brazilian modern architecture overlooks the contributions of these immigrants and their descendants, whose work was significant, whether independently or in public positions. Many of them arrived through foreign companies, forming social networks based on their native language and culture, hiring one another due to the lack of skilled local labor. Although the 1930s were marked by nationalist policies and professional regulations that restricted and marginalized these professionals, they continued to make substantial contributions, constructing major infrastructure projects and a modernity that has gone unrecorded by the official historiography of Brazilian architecture, despite its essential contributions to the discipline and to the urban development of immigrant regions.
Renata Bogo, Karine Daufenbach Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8071 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 O gesto do artífice em sua prática oficinal https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8057
This text seeks to analyze the presence of the craftsman in his craftsmanship, especially the plastic expressions in the composition of ornamental paintings made in the immigrant’s house, located in some regions of German immigration, especially in the Itajaí Valley, in Santa Catarina. Among the various examples of still preserved houses that bear decorative paintings, this analysis was based on the materiality of two houses, built in the early 20th century, located in the rural region of the municipality of Indaial: Casa Hersing and Casa Duwe. The plasticity of the paintings made in these houses demonstrate the communion of skillful hands and sensitive aesthetic thought. The analyses of these compositions will be taken from the conceptions about the fantastic paradox in the thought of John Ruskin, which requires the living presence of the craftsman and the common worker in the construction of architecture.
The city of São Miguel das Missões, located northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, houses the ruins of the ancient church of São Miguel Arcanjo, representing one of the most significant remnants of the Guarani Jesuit civilization among the Seven Peoples of the Missions. The site preserves material evidence, but also covers, above all, the intangible heritage bequeathed to the Guarani indigenous people and their way of being, characterized by the Tava, which attributes to the site's remains the meaning of a sacred place and a reference to the memory of these people. This article presents a brief systematic bibliographic review on missionary intangible heritage. The process of color renewal in the historic urban landscape is examined as a complex phenomenon, in which urban areas full of history are converted into stylized and commercial spaces, with the purpose of attracting visitors and stimulating the economy. Despite bringing economic and aesthetic advantages, these interventions also raise concerns about the loss of local identity and the decharacterization of the cultural legacy. In this context, the problem of the threat to the uniqueness of the cultural heritage and historical landscapes of Brazil, as well as those of other parts of the world, due to the spread of this chromatic standardization emerges. These interventions not only erase the marks of time and history, but also result in pictorial degradations that negatively affect the landscape, heritage and identity of these places. This study presents the results of chromatic interventions of the Let's Color program, promoted by Coral Tintas, whose name in Brazil is “Tudo de Cor para Você”. The research aims to instigate reflection on the chromatic changes that are being implemented in cultural heritage around the world, with emphasis on the context of Brazilian landscapes.
Ana Claudia Adamante Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8007 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Patrimônio industrial e paisagem cultural https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8066
This article analyzes the relationship between industrial heritage and cultural landscape in some of the disciplines that deal with them, taking into account the broad definition of cultural heritage. The aim is to understand whether these concepts complement each other and form a cohesive interdisciplinary field, promoting a comprehensive view of the values of industrial heritage. It is based on the premise that recognizing industrial structures only by their architectural aspect is a reductionist approach, ignoring other important dimensions. The study is divided into two stages. The first is a narrative review that conceptualizes the terms. The second is a systematic review that investigates, in the Brazilian context, how industrial heritage is treated in the context of cultural landscape and cultural heritage, at conceptual and practical levels. To this end, eight articles were selected and analyzed using the search terms “industrial heritage and cultural landscape” and “industrial heritage and cultural heritage”, comparing the contributions of different authors and areas of activity, elucidating the interconnections between the notions addressed. The articles reveal that although there is a theoretical consensus on the importance of interdisciplinarity and integration between the concepts, in practice fragmented approaches predominate. The cultural landscape is often treated as a backdrop rather than a constituent element of industrial heritage. There is also the marginalization of industrial assets in national preservation policies, with few listings that take into account their relationship with the territory and communities. The conclusion is that the gap between theory and practice persists, requiring greater articulation between them in order to transform interdisciplinary discourse into effective action.
Amanda Vaillant Mantovani, Evandro Fiorin Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8066 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Desafio para a preservação do patrimônio cultural em Blumenau, Santa Catarina https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7785
The article discusses the challenges of preserving cultural heritage in Blumenau,
SC, focusing on the controversy involving Lojas Havan and its owner, Luciano Hang. Hang, politically aligned with Jair Bolsonaro, expanded his stores facing less bureaucracy. In Blumenau, the construction of a new store near historical landmarks like the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit and the Colonial Family Museum faced resistance from IPHAN and municipal entities. Technical documents and court decisions demonstrated efforts to minimize cultural impact. In 2022, the Federal Court suspended the works to preserve the church's ambiance. The case illustrates the ongoing tension between urban modernization and cultural preservation in Brazil, exacerbated by deregulation policies and economic interests, highlighting the need for democratic appreciation of diverse cultural manifestations.
Gustavo Andre Glienke Feyh, Jaisson Teixeira Lino Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7785 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 não há Cais Mauá in dispute: reflections on Human Rights and Cultural Heritage https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8068
This article presents a reflection on cultural heritage and human rights, using the Cais Mauá and its recovery projects as a case study, with a focus on the two most recent proposals. The study updates the concept of cultural heritage by incorporating new contemporary values and emphasizing the importance of transdisciplinarity in addressing the subject. Within the context of globalization and neoliberalism, it highlights how the functions of the State and social relations are transformed, impacting urban space development and the preservation of heritage assets. The analysis underscores the effects of these changes on human rights, particularly regarding the right to culture, cultural heritage, the city, the environment, and quality of life. Finally, the article emphasizes the need to recognize cultural heritage as a strategic vector for promoting fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable cities, as well as the formulation of integrated public policies that combine cultural preservation with environmental sustainability and inclusive urban development.
In contrast to the traditional model of rural development in the extreme south of Brazil, based on the latifundium of the old estancias and charqueadas, characterized by extensive cattle ranching and the use of slave labor, the intellectual, statesman and ambassador Joaquim Francisco de Assis Brasil (1857-1938) proposes a new alternative materialized in a singular experience: the Granja de Pedras Altas (current municipality of Pedras Altas – RS). More than a century after its foundation and from the recent change of owners, a new cycle begins for the place. The text briefly presents estancias and charqueadas as the antecedents of rural development in the extreme south of Brazil to contextualize and contrast the project of Pedras Altas. From the bibliographic and documentary analysis, it reports the process of creation of the granja, the materialization of its spaces and the formation of its collection in parallel with the political and intellectual trajectory of its creator. The process of patrimonialization and listing as heritage are analyzed, based on the existing documentation in the Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of the State of Rio Grande do Sul – IPHAE, verifying the values that were being incorporated in this trajectory and discussing criterias until the recent change of owners. Finally, based on the contributions of the field of agri-food industrial heritage and socio-museology, it suggests for the new cycle of the farm, to resignify the pioneering spirit of the project as a model of sustainable rural development and as a didactic and patrimonial resource to leverage local development.
Luisa Duran Rocca, Ângelo Braghirolli, Eduardo Hahn Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/8201 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Memory and Identity in Young Adults of the Digital Age https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7984
The article addresses young adults' perceptions of belonging in the digital age and its relationship with memory and intangible cultural heritage. The advent of digital technologies has transformed social interactions, creating new forms of belonging and exclusion, with direct implications for identity construction. Memory, seen as a socially mediated process, is influenced by virtual dynamics, resulting in a fragmented identity subject to rapid transformations. The preservation of intangible heritage, which includes traditions and cultural practices, emerges as a valuable resource for strengthening mental health and the sense of belonging in a hyperconnected society. The research reflects on the impact of these changes, proposing a critical analysis of the relationships between memory, identity, and belonging in the digital context.

Emily Maria Barros Carvalho, Euler Renato Westphal, Luana de Carvalho Silva Gusso Copyright (c) 2025 Cadernos NAUI https://ojs.sites.ufsc.br/index.php/naui/article/view/7984 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0000
