O presente trabalho tem por objetivo mostrar que em Foucault o conceito de biopoder é uma ampla estratégia de governo da qual fazem parte o poder disciplinar e a biopolítica. Assim, governar por meio do biopoder comporta ações específicas que não se confundem com o modo de operar do poder jurídico-legal ou mesmo do poder de soberania. O governo do biopoder age sobre a vida, faz da vida um fato político.  Assim, governar através do biopoder é bem mais que aplicar a lei, mas gerir a vida por meio de outras estratégias que não propriamente os mecanismos da lei.

Abstract

The present work aims to show that in Foucault's theory the concept of biopower is a broad government strategy that consists of disciplinary power and biopolitics. Thus, rule through biopower involves specific actions that should not be confused with the mode of operation of the judicial-legal power or the power of sovereignty. The government of biopower acts on life, makes life a political fact. Thus, rule through biopower is much more than enforce the law, but managing life through other strategies that are not properly mechanisms of the law.
