Abstract

Globalization increases the pressure for excellence in organizations. This intensifies the competition between them, making them constantly seek greater efficiency of their production process and better use of their production resources. Faced with this reality, performance indicators are used to support decisions to be made and to improve the planning of the production chain. In this context, there is the application of the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), proposed by the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology, which calculates the effectiveness of the equipment and assists in the analysis of the real yield of production resources, enabling the detail of losses that directly affect productivity through three parameters: availability, performance and quality. Thus, the present work proposes an analysis of the OEE calculation to evaluate the performance of a converter in a large steel industry. The main results found were in relation to the performance parameter, where possible causes were analyzed, a simulation of how its improvement would impact in the final result of the OEE was made and a future view of how the indicator could be better used to further assist in effective decision making. and obtaining greater operational productivity gain.
