Process improvements in receipt of finished products in a textile company through the DMAIC method

Abstract

This article presents the application of Lean Six Sigma, through the use of the DMAIC method, in a textile company of the Center-West of Brazil. This study aims to optimize the flow of materials and information in the receipt finished products process and evaluate the applicability of the DMAIC method in the improvement projects within the company researched. In this work we used the research-action methodology, which has the researcher's proposal to intervene in the researched environment. The data collection took place through quantitative and qualitative research. The studies carried out defined the current situation of the final product receiving sector and carried out the analyzes using the DMAIC method. Two proposals were presented for the future situation aiming at improving the flow of information and materials. After the implementation of the chosen proposal, a 42% increase in productivity and a 62% reduction in handling and transportation within the sector were achieved. There was also the reduction of fatigue, improvement of the ergonomics of the work place and reduction of the cost of the process.
